Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest holistic systems of healing. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “science of life.” Ayurveda believes in maintaining the health of body and mind through learning about our unique constitution, which is determined by the exact moment of conception. This is our blueprint and it consists of five elements: Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. If imbalances occur due to the influence of various factors (age, socioeconomic constraints, hormones, trauma, lifestyle, etc.) we must balance our 3 types of constitutions, or doshas: Vata (ether & air), Pitta (fire & water), and Kapha (earth & water). This is done through the use of food, medicine (herbs), yoga asanas, breath work, color therapy, aromatherapy, mantra, sound, and by creating a daily ritual.
